catalog LANDSCAPE studio

Catalog Studio is a landscape design firm based in Northern California. We work with nonprofits, commercial groups, and property owners with the purpose of improving the ecological health and beauty of the site. The practice centers around the concept that through connecting with the environment we live in, we can derive more meaning and respect for the distinct places that we have chosen to settle.

LUCY MCFADDEN, FOUNDER/PRINCIPAL

In addition to being a one woman shop, Lucy serves on the Board of the Prouts Neck Conservancy and leads the Landscape Planning Committee. The work is focused on removing invasive plants on public roadways and paths to support biodiversity, habitat, and public health in the community. Lucy led and managed the production of a field guide on native plants which you can find in Projects.

Lucy received her Masters in Landscape Architecture at the University of Virginia and spent time in New York working for landscape architects including SCAPE, Deborah Nevins and Miranda Brooks. She grew up in Memphis, Tennessee exploring the hill country of northern Mississippi with her parents and sisters. Her upbringing in the rural South, formal training at UVA, and professional time in NYC have given her a unique perspective on American landscapes and how people connect to them. From the scale of the region down to the fraction of an acre, Lucy is interested in working with her clients by closely reading the landscape and discovering the story that inevitably already exists on the site.
